VB Racing, a homebrew Outrun clone for the Virtual Boy.
I totally missed this, but Planet Virtual Boy held a homebrew coding competition earlier this year, and Martin Kujaczynski’s VB Racing took third place (out of six entries).
Unfortunately, VB Racing doesn’t share Outrun’s wonderful soundtrack, but it’s still a remarkable looking game, especially when you consider that this is Kujaczynski’s first Virtual Boy project and that he managed to include the following:
- a fast raycasting engine
- self-drawn stereoscopic graphics
- three stages
- AI players that become angry when you hit them
As for the game that beat out VB Racing and won the homebrew coding competition, that would be Pat Daderko’s Mario Kart Virtual Cup:
I need to get a FlashBoy! (and a Virtual Boy)
